Angioplasty
The word “angio” means blood vessel and “plasty” means to open up. It is a minimally invasive treatment of blocks in the heart arteries. Angioplasty is done at catheterization laboratory of major hospitals. It is done under local anaesthesia. A tube or catheter is passed from the wrist or groin which goes to the heart blood vessels. A wire and balloon are used to open up the block in the blood vessel. Then a metal stent is inserted at that position, so that the blood vessel remains functioning well.
There are bare metal stents and drug eluting stents. By far the latest generation drug eluting stents which we use are considered best worldwide. Bio absorbable stents were also available in the past, which were discontinued due to frequent problems.
Dhadkan heart team doctors have done more than 10000 angiography and angioplasty. Our doctors are trained in USA, Europe and South Korea to deliver the best angioplasty results with inventions like intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), optical coherence tomography (OCT), fractional flow reserve (FFR) and rotablaton. These technologies and tools help us to give the patient the finest angioplasty results and better long term outcomes.
