Pacemakers

Pacemaker.png

A pacemaker is inserted for treatment of abnormal heart rhythm. A pacemaker is a small device with a battery placed under the skin through a mini surgery. Pacemakers are of various types. A single chamber pacemaker has a lead in only 1 chamber of the heart, whereas a dual chamber pacemaker has a lead in two chambers of the heart. Automated implantable cardioverter defibrillator (AICD) is used for prevention and treatment of life threatening ventricular arrhythmia. Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) is a special kind of pacemaker which helps to improve the pumping function of the heart.

Pacemaker is performed under conscious sedation at a catheterization laboratory in major hospitals. The procedure lasts for 2-3 hours. It may require 4-7 days of hospital stay. After the healing of pacemaker wound, most patients can lead a normal life. Dhadkan heart team has performed more than 500 pacemaker implants.
