Dyslipidaemia means high cholesterol. Cholesterol is a waxy substance present in our blood. Cholesterol is required for metabolism, build healthy cells, and formation of hormones. According to the Lipid Association of India 2020, at least 79% of adult Indians have some cholesterol abnormality. With every 40 points increase in cholesterol, risk of dying from heart disease increases two fold. Cholesterol problems are
common amongst Indians because of genetic predisposition, food habits and lack of physical activity.

There are good cholesterols (HDL) and bad cholesterol (LDL). These are measured by a blood test called lipid profile. High cholesterol can lead to fatty deposits in your blood vessels of the heart. These fatty deposits can cause heart diseases. Excessive amounts of cholesterol can lead to atherosclerosis, heart attack, angina, stroke and liver problems.
